What was your experience being diagnosed with MASH?

For many living with MASH disease, the road to a diagnosis can be long, frustrating, and full of questions. How did you feel after getting diagnosed with MASH? Did you know what MASH was prior to being diagnosed? We'd love to hear more about your experience!

  1. I saw an ad on Facebook about a study involving a liver scan. I signed up thinking it couldn’t hurt. When I got there there were other people in the waiting room. They went in and out pretty quickly so I thought this doesn’t seem like a big deal. When my turn came, I had the fibroscan. They had me wait for a bit and then a nurse practitioner came in and asked me how long I been an alcoholic. I told her I hardly drink. She asked a few more questions and had me wait. The doctor running the study came in went over my results. They ended up taking a lot of labs and forwarded the results to my primary. Now I am on a GLP 1 to help me lose weight. So far I have lost 15 lbs and my labs are better.

  2. I got diagnosed this year in 2026. I don’t know how long I had fatty liver. In 2025 only my ALT was elevated on my routine bloodwork and my doctor ordered an ultrasound of my liver. The results weren’t good. I was sent to GI. She ordered a lot of labs that all came back negative, then I had an MRCP (mRI) and that came back fine as well. I year later to make sure everything was fine my GI doctor ordered an abdominal ultrasound with elastography. That is how I got diagnosed, my koa values put me at moderate to severe liver scarring and I got put on Rezdiffra. Now I have lost 35 pounds and completely changed the way I eat. I try to stay away from processed foods, preservatives, artificial sweeteners and no alcohol.

    1. should say kPa values for the elastography, everyone should have this test.

  4. I’ve had fatty liver disease for over ten years and was given no info on how to improve the condition nor warning that it could become Nash. Now I am on Rezdiffra. The pharmacy that sends it too me told me to eat a Mediterranean diet when I asked. Still nothing from doctors. I now am on Zepbound and am working with a dietitian. All my own doing. Thank God for the internet as my doctors are worthless s dept to prescribe meds.
