Hepatologist?

I am newly diagnosed with severe fatty liver and mild to moderate liver fibrosis. After learning these diagnoses, I was revved to get on it and get better. As our medical area has no hepatologist, I messaged my gastroenterologist to see if she knew of a hepatologist to refer me to within a 100 mile radius. Her reply was that I didn't need a hepatologist. I just needed to eat better, exercise, lose weight, and reduce stress... so change everything in my life. My question is: do any of you see a hepatologist or are these diseases handle by your primary and/or your gastro?

  1. Ive been seeing mine for 18 months hes got me on a high protein diet and told me I need a lifestyle change. No salt ,walking and sitting down and doing workouts. Puts you touch with everyone you need to to be a good candidate for a transplant

If your doing your own cooking look for no salt salt made be Windsor salt sold at freshco and theres a different one at bulk barn with the spices

  2. I found an excellent Hepatologist. They specialize in the liver, keep up with the newest research, medications, and medication trials. We want an expert taking care of us and managing our care.

  3. I'm pushing to see a Hepatologist. I have a lot of abdominal pain, and my spleen is enlarged (Stage 4 Cirrhosis). I was told by my Gastroenterologist that only a Hepatologist looked into the spleen.

  4. I’ve been going to a Hepatologist for about6 years. I have NASH. Fatty liver was ignored for over 10 years until my gastroenterologist referred me to the Hepatologist. I am on Cholestyramine and Lactulose ever since the Nash diagnosis. I get labs and ultrasound every 6 months. Good luck.
